"Charming, heartfelt, and impossible to put down, this story proves love can survive politics, paparazzi, and viral breakup songs." — Jenna Harte, romance author and managing editor of Tender & Tempting TalesFresh off her Georgetown graduation, Jasmine Lewis landed what felt like a dream Washington gig: Working in the communications office for Senator Jack Ashworth, scion of an old money, power-political dynasty, who just also happens to be the frontrunner in the presidential primary. If she plays her cards right, she could be on the fast track to the inner circle of political power in DC.
What she didn't account for was the walking liability that is Trip Ashworth, the Senator's famously handsome and infamously rakish son. When he has a summer romance gone wrong with a pop superstar, she turns their fling into a banger of a breakup song. After a snippet of the song goes viral, Jasmine is tasked with rehabbing Trip's ‘playboy prince’ image, preferably before Jack formally announces his candidacy.
Despite their initial uneasy alliance, Jasmine discovers there’s a lot more to Trip than what the clickbait says. When their relationship evolves into a genuine connection, Jasmine must decide if being with Trip is worth going from spinning the headlines behind the scenes to becoming one herself.
Fans of “Red, White & Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston and “Good Girl Complex” by Elle Kennedy will enjoy “American Royalty” by Suzy Langevin.

“There’s no such thing as an average voter anymore. Everything is so polarized, candidates pander to the extremes to get elected, then feel like they can’t compromise without getting crucified on social media. It’s why nothing ever gets done.”
“That’s an awfully cynical view.”
“Really? I think it’s even more cynical to believe that you need to change with the tides just to stay electable.”
“For someone with no interest in politics, you’ve got a lot of opinions about how to be a politician.”

“For someone with no interest in politics, you’ve got a lot of opinions about how to be a politician.”
“You’re right, I have no interest in politics. But I have plenty of interest in policy—and the distance between the two is truly frightening.”
This wasn’t at all how Jasmine expected this to go. She’d wanted Trip to read her summaries, pick a cause, and move on—not critique the entirety of the current US political climate.
“I mean, I don’t think I’d say any of that in an interview,” she said. “Unless your goal is to sound like an asshole.”
Trip finally looked up from his phone screen. “Did you just call me an asshole?” he asked, though he seemed bemused rather than angry.
“No—just that you’d look like one if you say that to a reporter. And since it’s my job to make you not look like an asshole, I’d appreciate you choosing your words a bit more carefully when you’re on the record.”
“Fair enough.” A smile threatened to quirk up the corners of his lips.

Suzy Langevin loves love, even though she forgot how to say it in Latin when she was a contestant on Jeopardy! And she channels that love into writing happy ever afters where people are loved because of, not in spite of, the things they see as their flaws. She is the winner of the 2024 RWA Golden Heart Award, and her short fiction has been featured in several anthologies and magazines. Suzy lives and writes in central Massachusetts, and does, in fact, run on Dunkin'.
