Love scenes wearing movie costumes—a hot romance with a playlist!

Traumatized by a deadly underwater dive, police diver Catrina Turner abandoned her career and escaped to Muskoka, Canada’s upscale private vacation destination favored by wealthy celebrities. She and Titan, her retired police service dog, safeguard empty luxury homes over the winter. Her PTSD is a tightly held secret…until an affair with a visitor changes her life.

Hollywood screenwriter Chett de Groot needs a hit to save his career. He accepts a movie star’s offer to use her secluded lake house as a writing retreat, and discovers a closet full of her old movie costumes.

Lonely, freezing in Muskoka, and desperate for inspiration, Chett entices the beautiful security guard to wear costumes and role-play in seduction scenes. Together they discover how satisfying acting can be. Soon Catrina is ad-libbing passionate lines in scorching “performances” that knock Chett’s thermal socks off.

Then a film producer makes Chett an offer that will put him back in the game. But if Catrina finds out what he did to make the deal, will he lose her forever?

Catrina and Chett’s path to love and healing is Book 2 in the Hollywood in Muskoka series. This curl-your-toes romance can be read as a stand-alone short novel. Love music? Enjoy the optional “soundtrack”—a playlist.

Chapter 3
Lust in Space

Chett watched Catrina read the first page of the scene, then the second. Watched a frown knit her brows together in a glower—not the reaction he wanted from a woman he planned to seduce.

“This is sci-fi,” she accused. “It’s not romantic comedy.”

“It’s intended to be comedy. Sci-fi comedy.” When she turned her cynical cop eye on him, he said defensively, “This scene was inspired by Lost in Space. You must admit that movie is hilarious.” He pointed at the green unitard with iridescent scales that was flung over the back of the sofa. “I found this lizard outfit and other costumes in a guest room walk-in closet.”

As she inspected the one piece, an embarrassed flush stained her high cheekbones. “There’s no crotch,” she exclaimed.

“It’s not what you think. Jenna needed a way to pee between takes.”

Catrina didn’t seem convinced. “I may need some lubrication.”

“There’s no intercourse in the scene as promised.”

“I meant of the alcohol variety,” she said dryly.

He moved to the wine fridge. “Your wish is my command.”

She waved the script. “According to this, it’s the other way around.”

He laughed and handed her a glass. “Award-winning Chardonnay,” he said as she sniffed the bouquet, tasted the wine and nodded with appreciation. “Straight from Napa Valley by way of Jenna’s wine cellar.”

He leaned one elbow on the kitchen island’s granite counter, amused by her reaction to the expensive wine. He felt relaxed for the first time in weeks. Writing the campy scene had relieved numbing pressure to draft the genuine article. Even the sight of the massive canine sprawled in front of the crackling fire failed to dampen his mood.

While sipping the wine, Catrina scanned the remaining five pages of the script. “I’m ready,” she announced in due course as she set her empty glass on the island.

“You’ll need to put on your costume,” he noted.

She waved at his black jeans and T-shirt. “Where’s yours?”

“I’m Dan East, space pilot. This is my uniform for exploring planets in Xenon Galaxy. Besides, Jenna only kept her personal costumes. There are no outfits for men.”

“I should have added ‘no slave girls’ to the list of rules,” she grumbled as she grabbed the costume and climbed the staircase to the bedroom level.

“You’re not a slave girl, you’re a female lizard-like alien,” he called after her.

“With no lines to learn.”

“The lizards can’t speak English,” he retorted as a second-floor door slammed. “And in this sci-fi scenario the universal translator hasn’t been invented yet,” he explained to Titan.

Five minutes later Catrina emerged onto the landing and slinked down the stairs.

Wow! Chett’s jaw slackened. His surroundings faded. Hell, he even forgot about the dog. Nothing existed but Lizard Girl, all boobs and sweetly curved ass and long, lean legs in the skintight suit, hair tucked under a form-fitting hood. Except Catrina’s luscious breasts straining the stretchy fabric were natural, unlike Jenna’s. That damn parka had hidden a body that had his member powered up and ready for lift off.

Canadian romance author Madelle Morgan is passionate about Hollywood movies and music. She set her new humorous contemporary romance series in beautiful Muskoka, Canada’s summer playground for the fabulously rich and famous, including many Hollywood celebrities.

Being neither rich nor famous, Madelle and her sisters worked in Muskoka resorts as teenagers, but hung out with (and dated) the summer crowd. Living the upstairs/downstairs trope inspired her Hollywood in Muskoka series: someone in the Hollywood film industry falls in love with a local.

Catrina and Chett’s path to love and healing is Book 2 in the series, but this curl-your-toes romance can be read as a stand-alone short novel. Love music? Enjoy the optional “soundtrack”—a YouTube playlist that reflects the characters’ emotional roller coaster ride to love.
